Trail's Lake District Haute Route

In the February 2012 issue of Trail we provide you with 12 inspirational challenges for your hill-walking in 2012. One of these is a high level route throughout the Lake District created by Trail. Yep, that's right - all our own work, although Mother Nature did have a hand in some of the best bits...

The challenge: A 73-mile walk over six days, taking in 14 mountain passes, every Lake District valley and the option of adding on any of over 200 hills you'll pass.

When? August is the time when you've got the best chance of catching the weather and more accommodation options to choose from, though naturally we'd recommend it at any time of year.

Below is a PDF of the original Lake District Haute Route as published in the August 2010 issue of Trail. It includes detailed route illustrations and an account of Graham Thompson and Jeremy Ashcroft's journey. Click the image to download the PDF and start planning your trip!
