Here’s a stunning picture from the flanks of Place Fell in the Lake District - click on the photograph on the right for a better view.
It was taken by Country Walking photographer Tom Bailey for the latest issue of Country Walking and shows writer Jenny Walters going in search of the perfect walk for ‘fellwanderers’ – those who love roaming among the hills of Lakeland but who don’t fancy big climbs and woozy pinnacles.
She found it here, high above the twists of Ullswater, with a grandstand view of the Helvellyn range and the Kirkstone fells. That's Brothers Water in the distance, which also features in the issue.
As befits its title of ‘The Lake District for All’, the issue also caters for fans of other Lakeland landscapes. We’ve got walks for families, foodies, explorers, historians and thrillseekers, to name but a few, and there’s even one we think is perfect for EVERYONE…
Plus there’s Offa’s Dyke, Snowdon, Loch Ness – and a walk to the setting of Downton Abbey!
The new issue is out now in all good newsagents, but why not subscribe? We’ve got an incredible offer this month: A Garmin eTrex GPS unit! Click HERE to find out more…
