It’s time for the latest interim round of judging for the Homemade Mountain Movie Awards, and today we’re awarding the prizes for the Video of the Fortnight AND the Video of the Month for June.
The Family does Coniston Old Man by Ken Washington
Or do they! We were tantalised by this video which starts off well with the promise of a grand old (and ambitious) adventure for the family, but appears to be a victim of a mysterious bug, and is cut off in its prime. We only hope you can sort it and re-upload it Ken so we can see if you make it!
This is a great player to watch individual videos through.
On way up to Helvellyn by darksky9
A nice window on a glorious day on what must be Britain’s most-filmed mountain. Mix in a few more shots from other parts of the day, and this brief glimpse could grow into an enjoyable travelogue.

Scafell Adventure by Chrispy
Dad’s cut of a video we’ve seen before – and what an interesting contrast it makes. Less shaky-cam shots, and some careful fading in and out of the soundtrack makes for a very watchable film. The human element is a joy to watch – with a son-or-daughter’s reluctance and a dad’s optimistic fibs familiar to many of us. “Nearly at the top” Yeah right! Enjoyable.

Helvellyn Wild Camp via Striding Edge by terrybnd
Wow. We’ve become accustomed to the quality and heft of a terrybnd production, but even by his standards this is epic. A wild flouting of the 3-minute rule means it’s out of contention for a prize, but what a great watch. Combining elements of comedy, drama and even gear review all beautifully shot and delivered, it’s a treat to see. Terry’s delivery to camera has developed brilliantly, and his shot choice and execution are exquisite. To see those clouds boiling over Striding Edge is to feel like one’s watching the opening sequence of a heavyweight TV production. Strip the elements of this video that sit together entertainingly but awkwardly and you could have three very successful – and very distinct – entries here terrybnd!

Discovery on the hills by Twee08
An excellent example of the benefit of setting yourself a nice clear and modest aim for your video. Twee08 tells us they’re setting out in search of aircraft wrecks, and it really keeps you watching – with the help of some fast edits and slick shooting. A strong and simple film we’d love to see the principles of which applied to a bigger subject. You’re winner of Video of the Fortnight, Twee08 – but what more could you do we wonder?
• Twee08 wins a year’s YHA membership.

And finally… video of the month
It’s been a relatively quiet month for the HMMAs with fortnightly rounds in the short month of June – but that doesn’t mean our monthly winner isn’t anything other than worthy.
Matterhorn taxi service by Flat Land Climber is a riveting short film, with some expert context-setting and packed with evocative shots. Discretion is the better part of valour, and it’s a truth that’s entertainingly told in this video.
• Flat Land Climber wins a fantastic new Osprey Talon rucksack
