Facility information

Ben Arthur by a less iconic name, The Cobbler is Scottish Highland aristocracy, its devil-horned summit profile hinting at the technical climbing to be had on its summit. The top block is famously prone to giving people the heebie jeebies, and requires climbing ability to attain - via a scrabble through an enclosed gob known as 'threading the needle'. Massively charasmatic.

Best Route: you need to see the Cobbler in its full glory - and to do this you need to approach from Succoth (NN295055)

Such a great day out with plenty of variety. The slog up a zig zag path is rewarded with great views of the craggy summit. The path offers plenty to see as it follows a burn uptream with waterfalls to refill your bottle. The best spot to take a break (and some pics) is at the massive Narnain Boulders. Turn left at the fork in the path for for a great scramble to the summit. The true summit is only accesable by squezing through a hole it the stack and then a perilous couple of meters scamble. This is not something that is really necessary as the views are breathtaking and on a good day the Ilsa-Craig is visible to the south.

its the best (nearly a munro)ive done we do it as often as we can because you never get the same walk twice and you also get easy access to ben narnain and ben ime. it makes a crackin winter walk lookin forward to the winter to get back up it in the snow.

done the cobbler again yesterday 17/02/08 with a friend who has just taken up hillwalking.the view of the cobbler in front of the dam never ceases to amaze me .it is a straight up walk from the start and the unfit may find it heavy going.at the bottom of the cobbler there is some great scrambling to be had to reach the summit ,thread the eye of the needle to reach highest point ,did not do it today as was icy.alternative return go down path to right of summit and follow back to dam .this is a great day out and should not be missed cause it aint a MUNRO ,its better .
