The most southerly Munro is the centrepiece of Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park. Ben Lomond receives many visitors, but it is a fine eminence that gives a huge taste of the Highlands – and makes a perfect introduction to the vast landscape of mountains stretching north from its summit.
Best route: an anti-clockwise horseshoe walk goes from Ardess and takes in the peak of Ptarmigan.

I have to agree that ascending via the Ptarmigan route is far and away the best route up.. the views are spectacular, and if going the conventional route then the Ptarmigan ridge will obscure these views. the view across to the Cobbler is stunning from here...

Another vote for the Ptarmigan path...although I'd do it clockwise!

Love it. The Ptarmigan Ridge route, away from the tourist motorway, is stunning - particulrly if done in good snow conditions. The recent clear felling at the base has really improved the views.
