It's a long way from anywhere, but it's worth the trouble. Getting there takes you through some remote and dramatic scenery. From the north, there are various routes over or round Cairngorm, homing in on Loch Avon, which is one of the great places in the Cairngorms. There's even a small beach at one end. This is a great place to stop for a brew, with great views towards the head of the loch and Shelter Stone Crag.
The top of Beinn Mheadhoin is other worldly. It won't win any prizes for pointiness. Instead, it's a gently rolling plateau covered in the rought grit you get when granite is broken down by the arctic conditions. The highlight of this mountain is the granite tors. Although all require scrambling to get to the top, none are particularly difficult.
