Sandwiched between the thirlmere and threlkeld roads, High Rigg, is a small and oft missed treat.
park at Smaithwaite bridge at the south end and walk the ridge from South to North and you will be rewarded with some fantastic views for little effort. The first views of Thirlmere, and Raven Cragg are impressive, and what follows is an up and down walk, overlooked by the massive bulk of Clough head across the valley. But reach the top and you are rewarded with an uninterrupted view of the Skiddaw, Blencathra range. A short drop to the Church in St. Johns in the Vale, and walk back along the eastern base. Make time to stop at the Farm tea Garden on the way back.
