Notable for the Lion and the Lamb – a jaunty tower of rock that protrudes from the summit of this junior classic standing proud as the only Wainwright the great man didn’t have the bottle to stand astride. So if you like exposure, Helm Crag is an ideal opportunity to get one over on old Alf.
Best route: from Grasmere, on a round of Greenburn.

This is a short walk that can be accomplished in a afternoon. Has steep sections but overall is fine. Like Wainwright i never made it to the the true summit on the Howitzer, only half way!
