Wainwright’s resting place, Haystacks has, without question, something about it. Often dismissed as a mere knoll, Haystacks has fine north-west cliffs, serene Blackbeck Tarn – and just a lovely feel to it.

Best route: up Scarth Gap from Peggy’s Bridge.

Even though Haystacks is surrounded by other imposing fells it stands firmly proud in its own right. My walk was from Honister pass and it contained many gems and the path was varied. Well worth a visit!

Haystacks is special. An absolute must walk fell. Wainwright had his ashes scattered here for good reason. The fell is easily climbed and rewards the walker with a splendid view of Buttermere and Crummock water that rivals any view in Britain!. Walkers of any age can manage a walk up Haystacks.
