My biggest recollection is the bogs. Especially the knee-deep one. If you're heading up from the Ashness Bridge direction there seems to be a moment of 'shouldn't it be nearer than than?' - after you've been heading uphill for ages, and finally see the summit - still a long way off! That's when the bogs really kick in. Head to Bleaberry fell from the summit and there are grand views of Blencathra & Skiddaw.
