We arrived at Fleetwith Pike via Buttermere Fell & Hay Stacks on a fantastic Sept day. We sat & had our lunch on Honister Crag & the views overlooking the Honister Pass were fantastic. The descent via Fleetwith Edge was brilliant with uninterupted views of Buttermere. A lovely circular day walk from the carpark at Gatesgarth Farm & suprisingly not too busy!!

Fleetwith was the first serious hill climb that my wife and I undertook in the Lake District. The climb from Buttermere was tough for us but worth it for the stunnning views. We then crossed to Haystacks before descending back to Buttermere. We certainly earned our meal that night back in Keswick. Fleetwith is not to be taken lightly when climbed from Buttermere but provided scrambling is not something you are averse to when there is a bit of a drop, then go ahead and enjoy itand watch out for at least two false summits!

Fleetwith Pike is a much underated and often overlooked fell. Many people only visiting the summit as a detour, en-route to Great Gable. The easy route is from Honister, but while the ascent from Gatesgarth is more challenging it more than repays the extra effort. You will probably have the fellside to yourself even on a busy summer day and the continually changing views of the Buttermere Valley are superb - you have to stop and look back to take them in so don't plan on a fast ascent. Take your time and enjoy it.
