I finally got round to visiting this area(March 2009 ) and what a pleasant surprise. A nice easy walk up to the summit and along to the trig point with astounding views on this particular day. The Howgills were a bit misty but there was a cloud inversion over the lakes and we could see High Street sticking out. To the north another cloud inversion with Cross fell sticking out and south and east - Great Shunner fell , whernside? all just visible above the clouds. We walked south along the ridge and came down to visit Hellgill force which was a very pleasant tea break . Back along the other side of the valley there was one of the 10 Eden benchmark statues. Overall a great day out with hardly a soul around

A good starter for kids with an achievable summit from Arten Gill. Worth a visit when there is a steam train running on the Settle to Carlisle railway, provided it is clear. Good views to the North Pennines and Cross fell area as well as the Howgills. Limited car parking spaces though.

First did this hill on the Mallerstang Marathon and it has been one of my favourites ever since, climbing from under the railway bridge and pass the shake holes it is not too hard a climb. The views towards the Howgills are great as are the views across the other side of the Mallerstang valley.
