An iconic part of the North Yorkshire Moors, and one of the most accessible parts of the NYM National Park. A few different routes up, but they require some time spent over the map before hand, otherwise you get part way up and end up with the hordes piling out of Middlesborough and Teesside puffing and panting their way up to the top of "a friggin great bludy mountain".
Best approached from the back, thus avoiding the majority of the crowds untill the top. A favourite of Alan Hinkes though, so must be worth something. For some inspiring pictures, check out local photographer Joe Cornish's gallery in Stokesly, not too far away.
