Facility information

A source of bottomless affection for many, Roseberry Topping packs a punch on a par with many of the taller entries in this guide in terms of presence. Rising above Yorkshire, Roseberry Topping’s hooked profile is at once iconic and alluring, the eyes unconsciously wandering over its rocky flanks in search of possible routes to the top. Which is what all the good hills do.

Best route: from NZ570128. The route starts at a pub.

have walked this many a time and always enjoyed it, when covered in snow crampons are always advised, was up there yesterday and the snow gets fairly deep off track, once you have done the summit continue to the cleveland way and pick up the track to highcliff nab for a lovely view over the tees basin, the cleveland way then takes you through guisborough woods and eventually to the coast at saltburn, where there are plenty of god pubs and eating houses.

As you approach from M1/Stokesley it's iconic image draws larger and pulls you in like a Derren Brown show - you just want to tackle this moutain/hill. Definitely the Kylie Minogue of the mountain world, small but perfectly formed. Even the hook nose just add character

My 8 year pld's first hill last year when she was still seven. She enjoyed it immensly and fired her enthusiasm for bigger hills. This summer will see her up some of the bigger hills in the Dales. The Ice Cream van at the car park in Ayton is a good incentive! Lots of wildlife to see despite the large number of like minded people climbing the hill.

I love this hill and used it last year as a training hill for Ben Nevis. The scramble route up certainly gets you out of breath. For an easier route try the old miners path. This hill is great for children as well. My son Thomas conquered Roseberry jus the other month, he absolutely loved it. Once climed there are also great wwalking routes in each direction. My fav's include Captain Cooks monument and the Hanging Stone near Guisborough Woods. For pics on my walks around Roseberry see http://ukmase.wordpress.com/

An iconic part of the North Yorkshire Moors, and one of the most accessible parts of the NYM National Park. A few different routes up, but they require some time spent over the map before hand, otherwise you get part way up and end up with the hordes piling out of Middlesborough and Teesside puffing and panting their way up to the top of "a friggin great bludy mountain". Best approached from the back, thus avoiding the majority of the crowds untill the top. A favourite of Alan Hinkes though, so must be worth something. For some inspiring pictures, check out local photographer Joe Cornish's gallery in Stokesly, not too far away.
