I love Pen y Ghent. I love the fact that you can leg it up and down in a few hours and it still feels like you have done a proper mountain. This is really only a good thing if you leave less than an hour away, otherwise you can spend more time getting there than walking (never a good day out). walking from Horton is my fav, gentle warm up through the fields, bit of a scramble and your at the top, then a gently decent, with some nice geological features to pick up, before any easy decent back to Horton. It's possible to have a brew in the cafe in Horton, but it's not always open, and always feels a bit cold in the winter, so you might be better off in the Old Naked Man in Settle. This has to be my favourite of the three peaks.
