Starting with Catbells and continuing to Maiden Moor was a great walk. Two Wainwright in one walk. Catbells will be busy but not many continue to Maiden Moor which isn't that much further. You don't really know when you reach the summit but if carried on to High Spy you would have passed it somewhere along the path. Overall it is one of the easier walks.

Having just completed our first ever Wainwright, Catbells, my partner Jo and I set off to carry on over Maiden Moor. The view of the hill itself from the depression was very impressive, particularly the light dusting of snow and the crags on the right. However the walk to the summit really dragged as we climbed up. The views on either side, over Derwent and Newlands were lovely but pretty much the same as we had been seeing since setting off for Catbells whilst the view ahead was just the side of Maiden Moor. Upon arrival at the summit I had to agree with AW - where was the top? No cairn or obvious high point. The prospect ahead to High Spy looked exciting enough to make us want to carry on whilst looking back at Catbells we got a sense of how much higher we now were (there was also a little dance at having done Wainwright number 2). Maiden Moor will always be a point on a journey rather than a destination in itself for us although at least it was quieter than Catbells.
