Dove Crag was our first mountain climb. It is easily reached from Ambleside town centre and took 7 hous to complete. As it is virtually a unknown mountain to the average tourist the path was not over run with people, with the odd fellow walker passing every couple of hours. The route we took takes you over Low Pike, then High Pike, before arriving on the summit of Dove Crag. The weather on top was very miserable however the view over ambleside was stunning. The descent was steep at first, skirting around little heart cragg before taking the steady walk throught the valley home. The is a number of fish and chip shops/ pubs in ambleside, which ended the walk off nicely. A lovely walk.

climb this fell as part of the fairfield horseshoe and you wouldnt hardly notice it,but approach it from the east via patterdale and its very different.park at cow bridge ,passing brotherswater and steadily climb into dovedale valley, a quiet and lonley place(perfect),pass the waterfalls and on up the valley ,dove crag comes into full view.spend time exploring around the base,or take the steep rocky staircase past the ruin and lonley tree, and head for the priest hole cave-wonderfully remote.a great place for a wild camp.one of the best short walks in lakeland, return by way of hartsop above how for a cracking short walk.
