Y Garn is the ugly sister of the Ogwen Valley, often overlooked in favour of its more photogenic Glyderau siblings. Budding mountaineers should not ignore the attractions of its north-east ridge scramble, however, which makes for a fun day out.

I first walked Y Garn backwards, as most people seem to walk down it after first coming across from the two Glyders or up through the kitchen. We walked up from the llyn side. Stopped halfway up for a breather halfway up and turned around. The view down the valley was totally astounding. I think that it would not have had the same impact if Id seen it all the time whilst walking down. Goods views of Snowdon from the top, and the other mountains in the area. Do it this weekend.
