Best walked early or late to avoid the crowds. Instead of parking half way up, people should try parking at Loggerheads country park and making a half day's walk out of it. Suitable for the lesser fit too. Am looking to take up Trails advice of trying a night time walk in the next few weeks. Should add an interesting twist!

Have done this hill many times as i dont live far.....Is a very pleasant area and great for walking the dogs. Can get crowded though. Great views over Ruthin and beyond. Easiest route up is from Bwlch Penbarras car park.

As an inhabitant of Ruthin at the foot on Moel Famau I am familiar with all aspects of this entertaining hill. The soft approach is from Bwlch Penbarras car park along the jubilee path. Go early because the views accross the Vale of Clwyd to the serrated Snowdonia skyline look breathtaking in the pink dawn light. Mountian bikers are well catered for too with a waymarked route meandering on forest roads from forest car park. This loops around the summit via (often muddy)singletrack through heather and a fast grassy descent. Wild camping is not easy due to the stench of sheep droppings on the surrounding grassy ridges. Elsewhere the heather roots will cut your tent to ribbons.

Been up this so many times, the extended family usually gather to climb on Boxing day and we've had literally allsorts in weather. The Victorian edifice on the top provides somewhere to attempt shelter for the butty stop, and maybe Uncles hip flask liquor ;) Not the place to go for a peaceful outing though weekdays are better.

I walked up here years ago with my Dad. My recollection of it is a little hazy, but I remember it being a good day, with clear views. There was also a beacon at the top (!?) A good hill, even if its because I walked up it with my Dad.

Just about every scouser I know who walks has climbed this many times. I guess its because its the nearest hill of decent size. A straightforward walk, can be a bit muddy in places, with only a few steep stretches. The walks in and out are easy, if a little bland. The views from the summit tower are fantastic, on a clear day you can see from Snowdonia right across to Kinder Scout and Bleaklow. So well worth ticking off your list , if only for the summit views.

Walked this one 29th December 2007. Conditions were pretty awful - rain and very strong wind. Ascended from Loggeheads country park. A fairly easy ascent - a couple of steep parts but generally fine. Views from the top sensational!
