Crib Goch

i love this mountain, a bit to much though. only get to go to snowdonia about 6 times a year and each time i go i wont to do this again and again. this gets u focused on the mountain and life's problems disappear.

Recently convinced 6 work mates to join me on this classic route on my home turf. Enjoyed by all and even had a few burley fire fighters knees knocking on the scramble below the ridge!! Not for the faint hearted though but can't rate it high enough!

One of those that you have to do, but avoid weekends. Everyman and sometimes there dog seems to be on here, let alone the summit. I did the full horseshoe for the first time in April and enjoyed the Crib Goch, but the second part of the rout we only saw 8 people. Thats more like it should be. The descent of the summit is 'fun'.

I was there last weekend. Five hour drive from London in my camper van on Saturday morning. Then seven hours of serious exertion- Crib Goch then down The Pyg Track, after being stunned by the crowds on Snowdon's summit. How can I put it? Terrifying! I now realise though, that the wind and driving rain made it seem worse than it actually was. I was both shattered and elated at the end. A tremendous challenge, certainly not to be underestimated (I did) but definitely to be repeated.

It isnt as bad as people make out, I'd say the initial scramble up is more dangerous than the traverse. I found Crib Goch to be a load of fun. If your unsure of it when you get up there, hold on to the ridge and scramble across. As long as you dont rush and dont panic you will be fine.

I took my 11 year old twins up Crib Goch at Easter. I think it provides an excellent introduction to proper mountaineering - requiring the self-reliance, determination, with just enough exposure and drama to develop a healthy respect for the environment and potential dangers.

Crib Goch is great yes, but it's over-rated. It's not really difficult and the exposure can be avoided; the only people that will struggle on it are townies with little or no mountain experience. If you want a better experience of Crib Goch, set off early from Blaen y Nant campsite in the Pass and head around the back of Dinas Mot and up the North Ridge - you'll hardly see a soul until you are on Crib Goch proper. My favourite way of starting the Horseshoe.

Possibly the best horseshoe walk i,ve ever done. Loads of scrambling potential and a proper day out in the mountains. Crib Goch is an awesome ridge with pretty severe exposure. Good head for heights is essential. We were treated to a cloud inversion when we got to the summit of Snowdon. Spellbinding!

This is a great walk for those who like an extra added challenge. But personally I prefer the Nantlle ridge from Rhyd Ddu. Though not as high it is superb ridge walking and the exposure is great and it's much less crowded than Crib Goch.

I think Crib Goch is a great way up if you want something that will provide a bit more of a challenge. It can be a bit hairy in wet, icy or windy conditions, but so long a you have a bit of a head for heights it's great. A walk you can't do with your hands in your pockets!

Given all the horror stories I'd heard about Crib Goch, I was pleasantly surprised by it. Despite not being a great fan of heights, it wasn't anywhere near as bad as I had expected. Okay, so I used my hands most of the way along, but then the terrain allows for this. Having done it several times now, I wouldn't consider doing it in anything other than glorious sunshine. Not a place to be on a wet, snowy, icy or low visabilty day unless you know what you are doing.

Cracking hill, Went back there last september with a friend who had'nt walked it before. He got a bit ahead of me as i kept stopping to take pictures. I caught up with him at Bwlch Goch and he asked me where the scary knife edge was??. It was a clear day and when i told him he'd just walked over it he did'nt seem that impressed.

the answer to that question is most definately YES.my one trip to this ridge was the most exhilerating experience of my life.but people wanting to climb this ridge should be aware off the dangers.it is very exposed , the drops are huge ,in bad weather it should be avoided,but given agood forecast and an early start,a sensible attitude and the ability to pick ones way across it can be a superb day.but remember donot be afraid to turn back if the weather turns or one of your party does not feel confident.ENJOY!!
