Facility information

Hurled in a forgotten corner of north Wales, the Berwyns are an oft-ignored gem just outside the National Park boundary. A high, rocky ridge links the more or less equal highest points of Cadair Berwyn and Moel Sych, and resembles a perfect transition between the bouldery summits of Snowdonia and the sweeping ridges of the Brecon Beacons.

Best route: the ridge begs to be tackled as one, and for the impressive frontage of the east face, head north from Tan y Pistyll any way you can, then at SJ080337 turn onto Cadair Berwyn’s north-east ridge.

have done this walk several times in last few years, starting/finishing at Pistyll Rhaedr. Favourite parts include following track high on the side of the broad valley on the way up.. and visiting the top of the falls on the way back. Not massively long or high walk but enjoyable all the same. Can be really boggy in places... and watch out for the legendary hounds!

Did this as a spur of a horseshoe starting at Mynydd Tarw, across Cadair Berwyn and down onto Godor. The views to the north, showed the Snowdonia range in all it's glory, whilst to the south it was inversion city. Go when it's frosty and it is not boggy at all. A great big day out.
