wonderful isolation, stark views of the snowdonia bunch, haw frost, silence, a never seen before llyn, the only thing really lacking is paths!!
we made our own way up from car park / toilets at the end of llyn celyn (845404).
followed the farm track up to the ruined farm buildings then cross country to 835410 where there are a couple of hard to spot sheepfolds. from there following the route of the ancient fence before going over a style and heading for the summit along new fence through fairly thick heather. there is a semblance of a path here, though it is somewhat intermittent.
the views north are good enough to take even the most seasoned walkers breath away.
descend over initially rough ground towards y foel then continue down to an obvious scar, sorry track, which winds its way easily down towards the main road. views of llyn celyn particularly good during this initial descent. you may choose to descend all the way to the road then back to your start point or, as we did, go cross country back to the ruined farm.
try to avoid area around 834407 its a natural bowl which is something of a sponge..wet legs guaranteed.
