The Kahtoola KTS Steel is a very lightweight 10-point approach crampon. Designed originally to fit on fell-running and approach shoes, these crampons will also fit on walking boots thanks to the clever independent heel and toe strapping system, and a spring steel plate. The spikes are short and are arranged with eight vertically and with two front points canted forward at a low angle. Four of the vertical spikes are rotated at 90º. These crampons fall very firmly into the specialist end of the market and will appeal to very experienced walkers who like to travel light and fast over easy snowy terrain. Climbers in the Alps who need a light weight crampon to approach rock-climbs might also find them useful. But Kahtoola KTS Steels are suitable only as approach crampons on the flat and on slight slopes. The combination of soft shoes and flexible crampons offers insufficient support on steep hill or mountain terrain.

Verdict
On low-level, easy snow Kahtoola KTS Steel crampons are a handy tool – but these sorts of conditions are rare in the UK.
