The North Face Modulus

This winter jacket weighs just 586g (men’s size M); Gore-Tex Pro Shell fabric offers extremely good levels of waterproofness and breathability; stretch panels; four spacious chest pockets; long pit zips; brushed polyester collar lining; excellent fit and movement on hood. But the price is way out of line compared to similar jackets we looked at; front zip doesn’t get external stormflaps; 2 of the 4 chest pockets are quite small.

Verdict The features are good for mountaineers and hill-walkers, but the price kills any suggestion that this jacket is worth buying.

Well I picked up this jacket for just £200 from Gaynor Sports (this was in sale, brand new). For that money - its absolutely superb when put against the competition I looked at. Pretty light, build quality looks good, extremely comfortable and mine (in red) looks great as well. Havent had a great go in the rain yet, I was blessed with great weather for the trip I bought it on, but from experience, it looks like it'll perform admirably. Granted the external doesn't havet double stormflaps, the front zip is sealed, then there is a storm flap underneath- I'm sure this'll be more than adequate (if the rain is hard enough to get through this- then you'd get wet whatever jacket you wear as far as I'm concerned!) In summary, great jacket- if you can get it for less than the steep asking price, then an excellent item.
