The Gore-Tex fabric on the Arista is surprisingly stiff and very rustly. However, the jacket has an excellent hood with volume adjusters, a stiff peak to keep your face dry, and when tightened it swivels as your head turns so there’s no loss of vision. On the downside, the hood’s drawcord adjusters are fiddly, you can’t take the hood off easily without undoing the collar, the lack of a soft chin guard makes for a sore chin in cold weather and the collar doesn’t lock in warmth that well. The Arista performs well, though, with deep, mesh-lined pockets to provide a welcome flow of air, and the Gore-Tex fabric is breathable and waterproof. The sizing is generous so try before you buy.
