The Rab Super Dru is a modern classic that is very hard to beat if you’re in search of a functional, lightweight hill-walking jacket. The Super Dru is made from 3-layer eVent fabric, which controls condensation better than Gore Paclite used on some other jackets. You also get more abrasion-resistant fabric over the shoulders and sleeves. The body is longer than similar jackets, which for my money nudges this ahead of the closest competition. A superb cut prevents the hem or cuffs from riding up too. The design is simple, with just three large chest pockets and a front zip. The hood rolls down and has a wired peak, while adjustment and movement are all very good. For hill-walkers and scramblers this looks ideal, and it has been proven over the last year to work on the hill. But the Rab Super Dru’s front zip does not get an external stormflap, so it is possible that leaks may occur in driving rain. Other fabrics are probably more durable if scrambling or mountaineering, while other jackets are lighter and lower in price. There is no women’s fit either.

Verdict
The Rab Super Dru is a superb lightweight jacket for hill-walkers and backpackers that is hard to beat. It won the accolade ‘Best in Test’ in this review.
