The Bergens manage to balance a light weight and good packability against toughness, comfort and performance to make an excellent pair of trousers. The three-layer eVENT fabric feels incredibly breathable and it will also keep the rain out in even the worst weather. The hip-length zips make it easy to spill heat if the going gets hot; and the drawcord adjustable ankle cuffs offer a fair amount of versatility. The elasticated waist is adjusted with a drawcord that felt both comfortable and secure, and the articulated knees didn’t restrict movement. They don’t have any pockets and fit-wise, the medium size tested was quite large. They cost a lot of money, but other than this they are difficult to fault.
