Páramo Velez Smock

£180.00

LFTO rating rating is 4
Owners' rating rating is 4

Well-proven to fight condensation and keep the wearer dry from heavy rain, Páramo garments have a broad following for their unique fabric. With this multi-activity jacket you also get extra ventilation from two zipped side vents. Behind these zips you’ll find access to a tunnel handwarmer pocket that is ideal for keeping fingers warm. The design is a smock, which is actually ideal for multi-activity, as it allows space for a huge pocket on the chest that can be easily accessed. The jacket is longer than most with a scooped tail, while being short enough for biking or wearing a climbing harness. The hood can be rolled down or completely removed. The hood has a wired peak, and it fits quite well and moves okay with the head. Reflective piping completes a good features list. But this smock is quite warm compared to conventional waterproofs, so it’s not ideal for summer action, although it is superb for cooler months. It’s also quite heavy at 758g. The hood isn’t quite as good as some in terms of its movement.

Outer: Nikwax Windproof
Inner: Nikwax Analogy Pump liner
Fabric waterproofness: water resistant/waterproof
Fabric breathability: extremely breathable
Sizes: S-XXL (men’s); XS-XL (women’s)
Weight: 774g (men‘s size L)
Made in Colombia
Stores in UK: 50

Verdict: Perfect if you want exceptional condensation control in a smock that’s ideal for biking, climbing, scrambling and walking in cooler weather.

What can I say? Well I am truly impressed with this jacket I paid £120 in the sales and I think thats a grate price. With a life time grantee you can be sure your getting a jacket that will last you many years to come! Had mine a year now and it still preforms like the day I bought it!

I've had one for a month now. I bought it to fill the gap between my summer light waterproof and my insulated winter one. Shopping around I was able to buy it for £99 and at that price I can put up with the little annoyances. The main one is, as chrisoates mentions, the internal hand warmer pocket. When it's cold and raining I found water running down the sleeves into the pocket. I guess this is something that happens with all of them, must be why Grandad told me to keep my hands out of my pockets! The way water sheets off it is incredible and getting home warm and dry, rather than wet on the inside from sweating makes it a joy. Buying it was made me re-think the layers system of getting dressed. Now I have a base layer and this jacket with a fleece jumper in the back pack (although I've never needed it). Next stop some Trousers from Paramo too...

But you can find good deals online - i got mine for under £100 and can sometimes live in it - love its performance and the inside pocket access is no big deal.

Waterproof, windproof, warm, comfy, smashing, lovely - except the stupid internal pockets which you can never find.

The Torres smock has a full width exterior pocket - which is what the Velez should of had.

To acccess the Velez pockets you have to open the smock - bit of a dumb idea.

The Torres smock is vastly superior but of course only of use in winter.

My Velez doesn't get used a lot as I'm a sedentary birdwatcher and prefer the Torres - if I were a mountaineer or more active the Velez might be my choice.
