Páramo Pasco/Andina (2103)

£220.00

LFTO rating rating is 4

The Pasco (men’s)/Andina (women’s) is a unique offering, being even more radical in design than most Páramo jackets. Like other Páramo garments it is built around the tried and trusted Nikwax Analogy fabric, which is extremely good at controlling condensation and keeping rain out when hillwalking. It is also quite warm, so in winter this is a benefit, while in summer it could feel overly hot. But like most Páramo jackets you get a huge degree of ventilation control and on this jacket that means two massive side zips that extend from the elbow to the hips. These also give access to a small handwarmer pocket on each side of the jacket, which can also be accessed above a rucksack hip- or waistbelt, but they are too small for anything bigger than your hands and you risk getting water inside the jacket when using them in the rain. There is also a large chest-mounted pocket that is ideal for maps. The body of the jacket is quite short, though, which is great for fast and light action or climbing, but not so good for walking without overtrousers. The hood has a wired peak, and it fits and moves reasonably well with the head. The Pasco/Andina is designed for demanding walks and backpacking trips (so says Páramo) and its unique design will undoubtedly have its enthusiastic fans; but I’m not convinced.

Verdict

The Pasco/Andina is like Marmite, with some people loving its quirky design and others choosing alternative Páramo staples such as the Alta or Cascada for demanding walks and backpacking trips.
