Páramo Aspira Jacket

£250.00

LFTO rating rating is 4
Owners' rating rating is 4.5

A hugely popular jacket for winter, the Aspira controls condensation better than most jackets and is also warmer than most, making it ideal for the worst of winter weather. The material is different to others, yet it works really well at keeping out driving rain. The jacket is longer than most with excellent movement in the sleeves. There are four chest pockets, three of which are map-sized. As the jacket is warm you get upper arm vents to help keep you cool. The hood fits over helmets and has a wired peak and good adjustment to allow good movement when climbing. The Aspira also comes in a smock version and this year there is a ladies’ version too. Great jacket for winter action. But the extra warmth can be a drawback if the winter weather is fickle and strangely warm. Also the weight of the jacket is higher than most, although in cold weather you won’t need as many extra insulating layers of course either. The hood does not move or fit as closely as some others tested here. You can force water through the jacket when sitting, but it tends to dry very fast.

Outer: Nikwax Windproof
Inner: Nikwax Analogy Pump liner
Fabric waterproofness: water resistant/waterproof
Fabric breathability: extremely breathable
Sizes: S-XL (men’s); XS-XL (women’s)
Weight: 918g (men’s L)
Made in Colombia
Stores in UK: 50

Verdict: Heavy but with exceptional condensation control, and the warmth is a real advantage in cold weather while the features are ideal.

I have the smock and it's fantastic in winter. You put it on at the beginning of the day and it stays on - venting as and when necessary. No need to stop to add or remove layers like your mates have to. You tend to love or hate Paramo and I love it - the Aspira lives up to everything it promises whether fell walking in the Lakes or mountaineering in Scotland. The large chest pocket is great for gloves/mitts, maps and other bits and pieces. The hood is perhaps the only drawback. It fits over a helmet and has a wired peak, but can some adjustment to get it a good fit. This is a great item for winter action and you don't need much underneath it. Just don't take it out when it's warm or it will weigh you down trying to carry it!

Perfect Scottish winter smock. Too heavy for warmer weather. This is a smock that you put on at the start of the day and keep it on. You don't want to carry it. You get used to the extra warmth and learn what YOU have to wear under it. The ventilation options stop you overheating. When i'm wearing this i usually start cool and carry my extra insulation as an overlayer for belaying, rest breaks etc. The hood peak could be improved.

Re: Páramo Aspira Jacket

John, if you're going to use the aspira for just walking, get the jacket, its lower cut is more suited to walking. If you want to do mor ein it, such as mountain biking or climbing, like i do, get the smock as its more suited to multi-activity, and can still be used for walking.

Re: Páramo Aspira Jacket

A relation of mine got a New Ladies Aspira Smock and I was very impressed when I saw it. It's a quality jacket with a very functional design. She says it's the best jacket she's ever had, it's light, can be packed small, it seems warmer than most jackets. It's design is roomy and allows excellent ventilation and breathability. Pockets are well positioned and roomy. It's made me consider getting the mens version although I normally prefer jacket's to smocks.

Paramo Aspira Smock

not tried the jacket but the smock is excellent. a couple of us spent a night in a cave in the lakes last feb, we were all pretty damp when we arrived and it was cold over night, all hanging our wet outers up to dry both my mates hate Gore-Tex jackets and both had very cold damp jackets come morning whilst i was dry and laughing heartily!
