In the Mountain Equipment Morpheus (the women’s version is the Seraph) you get classic Mountain Equipment features like large chest pockets and a great hood with a stiff peak that moves really well with the head. It’s made from Gore-Tex Pro Shell, so you get excellent condensation control too. Better still you get a stormflap over that front zip to keep rain out in a storm. None of the pockets is mesh-lined, so again that helps keep the rain out. The body is longer than some others so it protects the bottom when wearing a climbing harness or when biking for example. There’s also excellent freedom of movement in the sleeves, which is again ideal for biking and climbing. The hood is one of the best around, with a particularly good peak, and better still it can be rolled down and secured at the collar when not required. But there are plenty of lighter options than the Mountain Equipment Morpheus, and also plenty of lower-priced jackets. There is no reflective piping on this jacket, so it is not ideal for biking or running at night. The cut is not short or close enough to be ideal for running or perhaps even biking.

Outer 3-layer Gore-Tex Pro Shell
Inner none
Fabric waterproofness extremely waterproof
Fabric breathability extremely breathable
Sizes S-XXL (men’s Morpheus); 10-16 (women’s Seraph)
Weight 470g (L)
Made in Hungary
Stores in the UK 66

Verdict
The Mountain Equipment Morpheus is an outstanding lightweight jacket for climbers, mountaineering, backpacking and walkers, but others have an edge when running or biking

I've had this Jacket for around 2 years now and its still just as brilliant as when I first had it. It was a second when I brought it as the zip was faulty but a new zip and and waterproofing and I was off to the Cairngorms for what was the wettest and wildest trip there I have had ever. It was purchased to replace my Rab Latok jacket which had a fight with 2 ice axes and ended up looking like a Hawaiian grass skirt. This jacket exceeds itself, i have the lime green colour and go everywhere in it from pubs, university, work to even using it as my search jacket. hood easily fits a helmet underneath for them steep and uncertain routes and is short enough to wear with a harness without it trapping and restricting movement. This jacket is as robust and cool as its name "Morpheus" suggests. It will definitely be the best investment you will make for your walking kit.

The hood is my favourite feature in this jacket. While under classic lake district stormy weather i felt as though i was in my own little world and invincible locked away inside the hood. Very light and packs down nicely. I managed to get mine for £163 using a voucher code for cotswold outdoors. I was so impressed that i bought my wife the seraph version of this jacket. Not the same colour as mine though, we would look like the poddington pea's else!:-)
