It is the low weight and small packed size of the Marmot Precip that set it apart from most jackets, and this is ideal if the parents end up carrying it. The material is a good-quality fabric with a high level of waterproofness and breathability so it’s going to keep the wearer dry and comfortable for longer than most. There is no loose mesh inside this jacket, which makes it easier to put on than some others as there is less material to get tangled up in. Like others the front zip has a double external stormflap to keep the worst of the rain out. You get two very large chest pockets as well, and these are mesh-lined to allow a little more airflow to prevent overheating. The hood is a fixed design with a peak and elasticated face. You also get a strip of reflective piping on the back of the sleeve for night walks. But you cannot roll the hood down and stash it in the collar, which could be irritating if it does not fit well enough or there is no rain. There is no volume adjustment on the Marmot Precip’s hood either, whereas other jackets do have adjustment, so you might need to use additional headgear to achieve a good fit. Also the hem lacks any adjustment too, so this jacket may not fit as well as others that have more adjustment.
