Haglöfs Lim Ultimate

The lightest jacket in our test by a meaningful amount. The big saving comes from the simple pattern that is free of too many seams, while the use of Gore Paclite fabric offers good weight savings too. The jacket is very simplistic with only the bare essentials to keep you dry. So you get a hem drawcord to keep draughts out and a front zip. There is just one chest pocket, rather than the usual pair. The movement in the sleeves is excellent so the hem or cuffs don’t ride up. There are thumb loops too to that some might like. The hood is a fixed design with a large peak and external volume adjuster cords that work well as long as you don’t over tighten them.  If you want a lightweight jacket then this is it. But the only pocket you get won’t take a map easily. Also the cuffs are elasticated rather than Velcro adjustable. The hood peak does not have much stiffening either and other hoods fitted a little better than this.

Outer: Gore-Tex Paclite
Inner: none
Fabric waterproofness: extremely waterproof
Fabric breathability: extremely breathable
Sizes: S-XXL (men’s); 8-18 (women’s)
Weight: 268g (large)
Made in China
Stores in UK: no info provided

Verdict: Superb if weight is your top priority but you lose some features during the diet.

Have had one of these for a year now. I managed to pick one up before a North-South traverse of the Lakes. It does spend most of the time in the sack where its light weight comes into its own. I have had a few soakings though and each time the jacket has kept me dry and, most importantly, sweat free! The front pocket is good for holding snacks and the thumb loops are handy for scramblig, although the fabric isn;t as hard wearing as other Gore Tex models - but that's what I expected from pac-lite. The only minor niggle is the hood, although in a summer downpour I tend to keep the hood down. Have also used the jacket in the Alps where it's light weight was a god send!

I have had one of these for yeare and it is still in perfect condition. This is my backpacking and summer walking first choice. Like all Paclites though, you have to be carefull around rock. The peak on the hood is a bit floppy. The front pocket serves no purpose and if they did away with that and wired the hood peak, it would be perfect for me.
