Berghaus Paclite

£140.00

LFTO rating rating is 4
Owners' rating rating is 4

This lightweight waterproof jacket from Berghaus has a simple, figure-hugging design that covers your arms and hips well. The high collar is not part of the hood, making it comfortable and versatile, and the hood goes on and off easily – a real bonus on rainy days. Fleece patches on the neck and chin prevent chafing. The Gore-Tex Paclite fabric is lovely to wear, offering impressive breathability and keeping the rain out even in awful weather. The high collar and deep hood keep rain off the face and tuck away easily when not in use. The large venting chest pockets also provide a welcome flow of air, while Velcro fasteners and large storm flaps help keep the rain at bay. Packs away well, too.

Verdict: Perfect for UK walking, this offers lightweight waterproofing, breathability and comfort that you can rely on. It comes at a very fair price and packs away really easily too.

I've had my Paclite smock for 5yrs now. Bought for £120 as the smock is cheaper and lighter than the full zip jacket. The theory with smocks is that htere is less chance of zip leakage, as yes, would you believe, there is less zip!! I've been out on the mountain in some appalling weather and the Paclite has yet to let me down. Because it's so light, it can stay in the bottom of your pack without you even knowing it and it comes with a small stuffsack to pack it down with, though i've not used that. The jacket also has a superb hood that moves with your head when tensioned properly and the wired peak covers your face well in driving rain. The back of the jacket has good back coverage and doesn't ride up too much when you bend over. All in all an excellent waterproof and i would not hesitate to replace it with another. That would depend whether they still do smocks when i have to replace it though!
