Berghaus Paclite Trek 2008

The Berghaus Paclite Trek general-purpose jacket won Best Value in 2007, thanks to its weight and features, and also as it is a longer option. The material is Gore Paclite, which is superb in terms of waterproofness and it is good in terms of breathability, but its main advantage is its compact nature, which allows this to pack down very small. There is good movement in the sleeves too which is ideal for scramblers. You get three very deep chest pockets that can all be accessed while wearing a rucksack and they easily take maps too. The hood is an excellent rolldown design with a stunning peak and very good movement. All that for £160 and 470g makes this ideal for most walkers who prefer jackets they can stash in their pack for when they are needed rather than wearing them all day long. But in 2006 the Berghaus Paclite Trek jacket would have been a great choice; however Paclite does not control condensation anywhere near as well as say Pro Shell, so at this price there are slightly better options unless you want the weight and compactness of this jacket. Models with mesh linings are more comfortable, too, while others have more pockets.
