This is a well-proven general purpose waterproof that is good for hill-walking as well as general travel and walking the dog. It is made from the new Gore-Tex Performance Shell fabric, which has good performance for the price. A wide brushed polyester collar lining adds valuable comfort, as does a mesh lining. This is a longer jacket than most, and that extra length allows reasonable access to the base pockets while wearing a rucksack. There is a dedicated map pocket too, behind the stormflap of the main zip.  Good arm movement is provided so the cuffs or hem don’t ride up. The rollaway hood has a large stiffened peak and a close fit. All the basics are here. But the hood movement is not ideal compared to the best, and the wraparound chinguards can be irritating. There are fabrics such as Pro Shell that offer higher levels of breathability. There are also lighter jackets.

Outer: 2 layer Gore-Tex Performance Shell
Inner: polyester mesh
Fabric waterproofness: extremely waterproof
Fabric breathability: very breathable
Sizes: S-XXL (men’s); 8-20 (women’s)
Weight: 738g (men‘s size L)
Made in China
Stores in UK: no info provided

Verdict: Great for general use, for those that don’t need the absolute best performance.

I have been using this jacket as my main winter jacket for 3yrs and found it most suitable for my kind of walking i.e.Dales and easier Lakes routesand bombling about on the local moors when on Open Access Volunteer duty in all sorts of weather. It is light enough not to be a pain when stuck in the sac and long enough to provide good protection for the thigh area compared to a lot of lighter jackets. Both breatherbility and waterproofness are very good for me as I can get a head of steam up inside any waterproof. The hood is well adjustable with a stiffened peak which helps keep the rain off the specs and closes round the face quite comfortably. There is a map pocket big enough to take a laminated OS map but the lower pockets my partially blocked by a thick waist belt. The chin guards can flap around a bit in strong winds if they are not fastened. In my opinion a good all round jacket for most ramblers and hill walkers at not to high a price and one that still looks ok for those dreadful trips round town on a wet day.
