Berghaus Cornice/Glissade 2009

£160.00

LFTO rating rating is 4
Owners' rating rating is 5

The Berghaus Cornice/Glissade is a classic waterproof jacket that is well-proven to be ideal for those who want a good, all-round waterproof for walking. The price remains at £160 this year, while most jackets have increased by at least a tenner. It’s made from Gore-Tex Performance Shell fabric. Inside there is a mesh lining and also a wide brushed polyester lining in the collar, which all adds to the comfort. This is a longer jacket than most, so it’s ideal for walking in the rain. The extra length also means that the base pockets can be accessed even while wearing a rucksack with hipbelt. There is a dedicated map pocket behind the stormflap of the main zip. The sleeves allow good arm movement without the cuffs or hem riding up. Finally there is a reasonable hood that rolls into the collar, and this benefits from a large stiffened peak to help protect the face from driving rain. But the movement of the Berghaus Cornice/Glissade’s hood is not quite as good as it could be. Also the wraparound chinguards can be irritating if not secured in place. Gore-Tex Pro Shell fabric provide higher levels of breathability. If weight is important then you may prefer a lighter jacket.

Outer 2-layer Gore-Tex Performance Shell
Inner polyester mesh
Fabric waterproofness extremely waterproof
Fabric breathability very breathable
Sizes S-XXL (men’s); 8-20 (women’s)
Weight 730g (men’s L)
Made in China
Stores in the UK no info provided

Verdict: The Berghaus Cornice/Glissade is a good, well-proven waterproof that is ideal for general walking. It won the ‘Best Value’ accolade in our review.

I've had my cornice for around a year now. It's kept me bone dry and warm in the lakes, Snowdonia, the Brecons and the wettest place on earth....Dartmoor!! I tend to run hot but have found it to be very breathable. The map pocket is big enough for an OS map but struggles to cope if you have a cover on it which is fair enough I guess. The pockets have never leaked and, due to the lenght of the jacket are accessible even when wearing a rucksack. The double storm flap keeps your front dry around the zip area even in driving rain. The hood is very adjustable around the face and for volume. The storm flaps can be irritating when not in use as they flap around your face a bit but are good when in use. The peak is wired which gives you some additional shelter but the hood doesn't move with your head as well as it might. Not the lightest jacket but it packs down well in the rucksack. After a year there are absolutley no signs of wear and the quality of this product is obvious. Highly recommended.
