This soft shell jacket from Regatta is an excellent fit in the body, but the sleeves are frustratingly short – a shame as they have Velcro adjustment and would work well. The fleecy inner feels wonderful, more cosy than most. It’s notably less breathable than the more expensive fabrics, though. The pockets are quite small, but do offer some venting, and the inner pockets take a map.

Verdict: Wind and weather-resistant walking at a very good price, and a smart looking jacket too. Less breathable than some soft shells, but ideal for year-round use for less energetic walkers.
