Mountain Equipment Lightline

£150.00

This is a very warm duvet jacket, and it’s warmer than most others. It incorporates 250g of down insulation, and the shell is very water-resistant. The collar is also fleeced-lined. There is a little extra reinforcement on the sleeves and shoulders for extra durability. You get a removable hood too, which fitted well and had plenty of insulation. The two deep hip pockets get zips, and there is an additional zipped internal pocket. Adjustable cuffs give a good fit too. A stuffsack is provided for packing the jacket away in your rucksack. Generally this has everything you would want from a duvet in cold weather and the removable hood makes it useful in a variety of conditions. But 798g it is getting heavy, compared some other options. But note that you get a hood weighing 70g, plus reinforcement on the sleeves and a generally tougher fabric on the whole, but more importantly there is a little extra warmth compared to lighter options. So it may weigh more but you are getting a lot of worthwhile extra features for the weight. The design is sewn through to prevent down migration across the jacket, as are most duvets, so you will get cold spots at these lines of stitching.

Outer: DriLite Loft, nylon reinforcement
Inner: nylon
Insulation: 250g of 600+fill power 90/10 down
Sizes: XS-XXL (men’s); 10-16 (women’s)
Weight: 798g (men’s size L)
Made in China
Stores in UK: England 45; Wales 10; Scotland 15; Ireland 1

Verdict: Buy it if you want a very warm jacket with a hood at a great price and don’t mind the extra weight as this is ideal for most mountain walking situations in the UK and abroad.

My jacket continually sheds its feathers through the seams, and has therefore not as warm as when it was new. The outer shell of the jacket infuriatingly snags in the pocket zips and the main zip is difficult to do up. Sorry to go against all the other reviews, but I found this to be very disappointing for a Mountain Equipment product.

Like mudcow304 I got mine for under £100 in the sale. The coldest winds are kept at bay and it's extremely warm and cosy in cold wintery weather but not to the point I am overheating or sweating. I love the fact the hood can be removed, something I'd appreciate other jacket manufacturers taking notice of. The pockets are deep, the finishing touches of fleece lining around the collar makes it comfortable around the chin when fully zipped. Overall a great jacket for the money, probably a little too warm for active use but ideal for general wear in cold and chilly climes. David

I got one of these in the spring sales at about half the list price. It then sat in the gear cuboard for most of last year until it actually got cold enough to use this really really warm jacket. I can't use it when I'm active as it is simply too warm. However, I find that it is simply superb for wear around the camp etc. This is typical ME gear, does what it says on the tin without any silly fashion frills. It is well worth searching around for the best deal though as this jacket often comes extremely cheap compared to the RRP. At under £100 it is far better than anything else on the market.
