Millet has produced a series of great soft shell jackets over recent years, and the Super Touring is its latest offering. It’s very lightweight and makes use of Polartec Power Shield to provide 98% wind resistance and very good water resistance, while maintaining a higher level of breathability than some other fabrics. There is good stretch too for extra mobility, and the sleeves also allow good movement when scrambling. You get two main chest pockets, which can be easily accessed while wearing a rucksack, plus a third smaller pocket that is ideal for a climbing guide, compass or GPS receiver. The hood goes over a helmet yet it also fits the head closely, with excellent movement. The price is good too for what you get and this would be an ideal jacket to use when hill-walking, backpacking, scrambling or mountaineering, making it a true all-round mountain jacket. But the hood cannot be rolled down and secured or removed, unlike the Mountain Equipment Astron/ Astral, and the Astron/Astral is lower in price too for a very similar garment. Other jackets are warmer and more water-resistant (though for UK use most walkers will carry a hard shell waterproof as well).
Materials Polartec Power Shield Light
Sizes S-XXL (men’s); XS-XL (women’s)
Weight 422g (size L)

Verdict
A superb, durable jacket for walkers, backpackers, scramblers and mountaineers with only the lower price of similar jackets beating this to ‘Best in Test’.
