Rab Alpine Trek

£50.00

LFTO rating rating is 4

The Teklite fabric has a slightly plastic feel, but still feels good to wear. A no-nonsense walking trouser with contrasting tough Cordura patches on the knees, ankles and seat. They resist the odd shower well enough and are cut from a midweight fabric that’s spot-on for the UK.

Colours: Boston, flint
Sizes: 30-40in waist; 30-34in inside leg
Fabric: Teklite Softshell
Main features: Four pockets, Cordura abrasion-resistant panelling, articulated knees
Women’s version: No
Contact: 01773 601870, www.rab.uk.com

Verdict Near-perfect, well-featured walking trousers that will last a while and are definitely worth the high-ish price tag. Maybe a little technical looking for some, though.

I bought a pair of these on the recommendation of Trail magazine and I can honestly say I am disappointed with them. Firstly, the sizing is rubbish - I fit in a large in all trousers, but not these ones. They are too small. The material seems not very hardwearing in comparison to my Marmot Screes as I managed to put a small hole in them while scrambling up on Tryfan in them on their first trip out.

If you are into walking british hills, then these could be the perfect trousers for you.Made from just the right mix and weight of materials the Rab alpine trek will become your first choice when heading out into the wilderness.Fit is on the close side, but with plenty of room for movement due to the articulated, strengthened cordura panels. They resist wind quite well and in the spring/summer months theres no need for a base layer beneath them. The two hip pockets feature a mesh lining and can be used to provide more than adequate venting when things start to heat up a little. There is also a handy thigh pocket on one leg. Although not waterproof the alpine treks will withstand light showers quite acceptably and dry out very quickly.I have used these trousers on numerous walks and scrambles recently on all kinds of terrain and in various weather conditions and so far they are still in perfect condition, again a testimony to the materials used. At around £50 a pair they are placed firmly in the mid range of current outdoor pants, but would probably sell equally as well if they were priced a little higher, such is the quality. I also own a pair of mammut base jumps which retail at around the £100 mark and would say that the Rabs are equally as good if not better...and this is the decider for most people...the price.Rab once again have a winner on their hands with this product, get yours now before the word gets out. p.s. The only one thing I would say is,if you are a little long in the leg these pants may not be for you,I am your typical short a***d welshman and at 5ft 7and a bit are the perfect length for me so try before you buy.
