Mountain Hardwear Mesa Convertible Pant 2010

£55.00

My favourite convertible trousers are the now discontinued Mountain Hardwear Convertible Pack Pant. The new Mountain Hardwear Mesa Convertible Pant does retain one feature from these old classics, though – the smooth micro-chamois waist lining, which makes the waist area extremely comfortable under a pack hipbelt. The Mesa also has an elasticated waist with an integrated belt, which is ideal for a wide range of fit. There is a crotch gusset too for even more comfort. The ankle cuffs can be nipped in a little thanks to an internal drawcord, which is a useful feature. The pockets are reasonable with two Velcro-closured seat pockets, two map-sized hip pockets and two Velcro-closured map-width thigh pockets. So there is a good set of features here with the waist comfort being the main advantage of these over other trousers. But when comparing the Mesa Convertibles with the no-longer-made Convertible Pack Pant that I have used for many years, there is no contest. The Mesa trousers don’t have calf-length zips on the legs to help remove lower legs over boots. Also the pockets are not as easy to access as my old favourites. Like many trousers here there is no stretch either.

Material Canyon Cloth nylon, micro-chamois waist lining
Sizes S-XXL (men’s); 8-16 (women’s)
Weight 396g (size M)
Made in China
Stores in the UK 20

The fit and comfort of the waist area sets the Mountain Hardwear Mesa Convertible Pants apart from many, but they could be much better.

Wear well, comfortable etc etc. I live in mine. Only downside- they lack a zip around the ankle- so whilst you can convert to shorts, it's a faff having to take your boots off!
