Mountain Equipment Mountain Stretch Pant

Very comfy walking trousers that are almost as good as the best but lower in price. They come in regular and short leg lengths too. The fabric is a four-way stretch material, which further enhances fit and comfort, and it is softer on the skin than some lower-priced options. The waist is pretty standard, but it is lined with chamois for added comfort and there is a belt provided. There is a diamond crotch panel and articulated knees, which adds up to freedom of movement and comfort. There are four zipped pockets, and those on the hip and leg take a map reasonably easily. The fit is closer than some, which is ideal for scramblers and mountaineers. These are good all-round trousers for mountain walkers. But there is no width adjustment at the ankle cuff, except for a zip without a bellows panel inside, so it has to be left fastened up on the hill. Some trousers have more larger pockets and easier map storage. Extra reinforcement is not provided, unlike higher-priced equivalents.

Material: Stretchlite MTN, 4-way stretch, 85% nylon/15% elastane
Sizes: 30-38 plus two leg lengths (men’s); 10-16 plus two leg lengths (women’s)
Colours: storm
Weight: 484g (size 34)
Made in: China
Stores in the UK: 30

Verdict: Very good mountain walking and scrambling trousers. The closer fit may suit some better than the looser styles, but the ankle cuff is not ideal.

I have had a couple of these for the past 10 months and have found them very comfortable and practical. They have worn well despite being worn almost daily for work and having been caught on barbed wire and brambles. They allow great freedom of movement and weather resistance. The only issue I have had is the belt which as a tendency to loosen.
