Vaude Taurus 1

£145.00

LFTO rating rating is 4

This 2-person tent is a modern classic. The Taurus 1 now has extra poles at the foot for more space and stability. Meanwhile the rest of the tent is the same tried and trusted design. Pitching is outstandingly easy, thanks to the unique external frame design and the addition of adjustable pegging points. The tent is reasonably stable too. Like many Vaude tents, the Taurus gets a superb outer door design that uses four zip pullers to allow it to be opened in pretty much any direction. Porch space is just about large enough to store two people’s kit, while the inner tent space allows two campers to sit up at the front. There is a lot of mesh on the inner, allowing good airflow to reduce condensation problems. But some tents have more living space and more entrances. The porch is a little smaller than some other options so it’s not ideal, unless you are packing minimal kit. Some tents are lighter too. Like many tents the pegs are a bit painful to handle compared with some others.

So far I've only used this a few times, but for those times its proved itself to be a good quality tent. It has plentiful space for two people, and a luxurious amount of space for one person, you feel almost greedy using it on your own. At 2.2kgs a long way from being the lightest, but its not particularly heavy, and is more than light enough for two people. For the lightweight nut there's the taurus ultralight, but with this one you are paying a lot less for not that much more weight. The tent pitches quickly, and pitches outer first, so you can get in it quickly if its raining, or more importantly when the midges descend. It has an adequate sized porch for gear, although if you want something for cooking in, this isn't the best size available. This is a more than adequate very good value tent for two people. If you are on your own and like your space this is great, although if you are using it on your own, there are lighter tents that would be more suitable.
