Mountain Equipment Dragonfly

£290.00

LFTO rating rating is 4
Owners' rating rating is 4.5

This two-person tent from Mountain Equipment is as easy to pitch as any you’ll find, taking less than 10 minutes to erect. It’s big, but also very light, so is perfect for summer backpacking. The double-door design is great for keeping the wind out. Perhaps a little narrow at the foot for longer trips.

Verdict: Light, compact and really easy to put up.

i've used extended version of this tent for 4 years now. The Dragonfly XT (2.7kg) as an extra hoop at the front to give a porch that is large enough to sit/squat in whilst you strip off all your wet waterproofs, allowing you to keep the inner dry. Two ruck sacks and wet gear can be stuffed into the porch and still allow plenty of room to get out past. The rest of the tent is also excellent, the semi-geodesic design has stood up well in strong winds, winter conditions, badly pegged gravel pitches. The fabric is strong and has only recently needed reroofing (silicon). There are loads of internal pockets, the door tabs glow in the dark, the guylines are reflective. There is loads of head room. A proper 2 man tent and then some, for all weathers. Only problems: The poles go into plastic pole cups - these can shatter (I've had to do a repair on the hill) ME sent me a new one free. The cups could have been replaced with holes in the straps to make it lighter. The bags (tent, pegs, poles) are made of the same green material as the tent - this is great as the tent is unobrusive and could be left up all day an not seen- but is terrible for the bags as they are hard to see if you put them down anywhere.
