Mountain Equipment AR Ultralight II

This is a very light 2-person sub-2kg tent and you can save a further 156g by ditching the pole set and using a pair of trekking poles instead. It pitches outer-first with two vertical poles supporting the outer and then the inner is suspended from inside. The wedge-shaped ridge design creates a reasonable amount of space to sit up in under the ridge and it then tapers to the foot steeply. A real bonus is that there are two porches and two entrances, so two campers can have their own half of the tent.  The porches each have space for two rucksacks. The outer doors roll upwards and can be secured. You can also vent the top of the outer doors, which is very useful. But this is not the most stable design as the large, flat surface of the wedge shape tends to catch the wind very easily, so some care is needed to find relatively sheltered sites. The outer doors aren’t held open as securely as some others either.

Verdict Buy it if you want a very lightweight double-skin tent with excellent living space and are prepared to forgo a little stability

This was the first lightweight tent I bought and found it to be a good buy, mainly because of the pack size and weight. The tent itself is very easy to pitch, with two vertical poles forming the shape and then guyropes and peg holds holding it stable. There is ample space in the tent itself for one person/two at a push. The space provided in the porch is enough to fit boots and stove in at one side and a rucksack in at the other. However because i'm quite tall I found that my face touched the top side when lieing down. This was the only reallistic problem I had with this tent. For a smaller person it is an excellent tent.
