Alpkit Pipedream 600

£125.00

LFTO rating rating is 4
Owners' rating rating is 4

This is a low-weight, low-priced 3-season down sleeping bag from Alpkit. The price stands out as the lowest here by some way, yet the Pipedream is one of the best bags for colder conditions. This really is a case of excellent value for money. There is a big baffle that goes around the neck and one that runs down the zip, both of which will help improve the bag’s ability to keep you warm. The baffle that sits alongside the zip is taped to prevent the fabric snagging when you close the bag. The hood also draws in around the face and forms a good seal. If weight is an issue and you don’t want to pay higher prices, this could be a great option. But if you like bags with plenty of features and a colourful design then you will want to go with something like the Marmot or the Macpac. The Alpkit has no contoured foot box or trapezoid baffles for example. It’s also worth noting that it is not the most roomy across the chest either.

It's a while since this review went live and the prices have increased. As we have no control on this website, then best to double check our site for latest pricing. I have had to submit a score and selected 4 for each category (sorry) Cheers Nick

So you buy a bag for a really bargain price and worry that when it arrive its going to be a sack of something rather than the bag you expected. Don't worry too much about with the Pipedream - Alpkit have cornered the market for cheap but high-quality goods. The bags minimal, the hood is not entirely perfect and it won't suit bloaters (its narrow), but the fabric is good, the down is high quality and very snoochy-boochy .. and if you buy a red one its VERY SEEXXY looking. It packs down very small, its very light for its rating, the fabric isn't massively pertex but can see'off plenty of perspiration, condensation and damp, its got no extra down around the feet, but hey!! For the price just go and buy another pair of socks. Drawbacks? The hoods not 100%, the stuff sacks maybe not brilliantly constructed and the baffling around the zip snags a bit too often - But thats piffle really when you see what you get for your money.

Only had the bag for a couple of weeks but used it for taking my DoE group out on a few occasions. Its experienced very wet and windy conditions and a good chilly morning (about +2C. Felt warm and snug through it all (and I DON'T wear thermals to bed !). I'm 6'1" and 17 stone, so not the smallest of chaps, yet I found it very comfortable and NOT a squeeze at all. Coupled with Alpkits AIRIC sleeping mat, I probably had the best few nights sleep in the outdoors that I've ever had. It's very light and compresses almost to nothing so definately stays in my bag. By the way, I've always found Alpkits sales and aftesales care very helpful and friendly. (NO, I don't have shares !!). The only downside was my fault - I picked a 'chilli' coloured bag and a 'lime' sleeping mat - NOT recomended after a few beers however on the up side, I'll never lose them in a blizzard !
