This is a new backpacking rucksack from Macpac, and it is incredibly narrow for its capacity – which is ideal if using trekking poles. You get a front opening to the main compartment, thanks to a large zipaway panel. The back system can be adjusted for the best fit and I found it very comfortable with around 20kg in the sack. I also liked the fact that the lid was connected to the pack with a bellows of fabric, but it could still be expanded if the load demanded. Side compression straps, really deep wand pockets and cavernous lid pockets are all welcome additions. On the front of the pack there’s a pair of zip pockets too, which are good for water bottles. This is a great sack, particularly if you want a narrower profile. But the narrow profile means the load can feel a little unstable as the weight is further from the wearer’s back if you stuff those front pockets with water bottles. I’d also prefer quick-release buckles on the side compression straps. The front zipped opening may not suit all users.
