Karrimor Vapour 45L

£90.00

LFTO rating rating is 3
Owners' rating rating is 4

This is a 41-50 litre pack that’s designed to keep the weight down. The parts that need to be sturdy are just that, while other sections are nice and light. Even the clips are designed to reduce weight, and the walking pole straps can be removed. Pockets are limited to an internal and an external pocket in the lid, while wand pockets on the sides and elastic on the lid will allow extras such as fleeces and water to be kept handy. The snow lock is fairly deep with the added benefit of being compressible. The shape is nice and slim too, ensuring only the colour and the design will make you stand out. The Trail tested capacity matched the manufacturer’s claims to the litre. But though the main pack is a great shape, as soon as you pack into the snow-lock extension the lid bulges badly. While the shoulder straps have been designed to be lightweight, this unfortunately makes them dig in and feel rather uncomfortable to wear.

and felt a little concerned. The shoulder straps digging in? I've not noticed it myself when fully laden, but then I have only owned one other rucksack in my life, and don't have anything else to compare it to. I picked it up for £45, which looking at the RRP is a bargain (and only from one shop, the other s on the net still have it for full), and have not noticed the problems others have written about. Nice and light, everything packs in with room to spare. It'll certainly do me until I know better :)

RE: Karrimor Vapour 45L

Hmmm, i'm looking for an overnight sack and feel this must be the best value for money at 38.99 at gooutdoors. I already have a 20L and 65L and need something in between but don't want to shell out too much. Is this really that Bad?

karrimor

I was head to toe in Karrimor for many years back in the 90s. Great kit.

The new owners really dropped the ball.

If you want continuity of design and features OMM are the true successors as you know.

I still get misty eyed for the old Alpiniste 45+10 harness, stilll the most comfortable I've ever used. I must get one on for a retro day this winter :smile

rubbish shoulder straps

Hi PTC

Yep the shoulder straps let this down I agree, and I said this towards the end of the review.
Pity really as this brand was once a king pin of British rucksacks of course.

Nobody was fooled...

These can be had for half price all over. The side pockets are ludicrous, and the harness is rubbish. I would have loved it to have been a proper Alpine Lite replacement.
