Berghaus’ Freeflow range of rucksacks has been popular for many years. The Pro version came out in 2010 and keeps the rucksack closer to the wearer while still allowing air to flow across the back. For extra comfort the shoulder straps and hipbelt are perforated so you’ll get less sweaty. It has two internal compartments, but you can zip away the internal divider if you prefer a one-compartment style.
There’s a useful stretch front pocket for stashing a jacket, and the stretch wand pockets are ideal for trekking poles when they’re strapped behind the side compression straps. I’d like to have seen quick-release buckles on the compression straps, and I’m not sure how many people will use the supplied rain cover. The weight is a bit high due in part to the extra lower compartment zips and the 90g rain cover, so if these are not features you want, the sack is heavier than it needs to be.
The Berghaus Freeflow Pro 40 is a great narrow-profile sack for scrambling and hill-walking, nonetheless, and features a pocket for a hydration bladder.
