Berghaus Freeflow III 35 + 8

£60.00

LFTO rating rating is 4
Owners' rating rating is 4

This daysack from Berghaus is very comfortable. You’ll hardly notice you’re carrying it – even when fully loaded – which says a lot about the Freeflow back system. However, it does carry the load away from the back, which can affect stability. The 35+8-litre capacity sounds huge, and it’s superbly featured, with everything you could wish for, including excellent pockets and a good rain cover.

Verdict: A wonderful, well-featured pack with good pockets and a great back system. Difficult to fault for the price.

Capacity: 35 litres (plus 8)

Main compartment: Lid/drawcord

Back system: Freeflow III (concave airflow)

Other features: Hip belt, expansion side pockets, shock cord pole holder, internal zipped lid pocket

Colours: Five, inc. blue/granite/black

Weight: 1,400g

i have bought the new iv series 35+8 and this is a brilliant bag. plenty of room for all my gear and the best back system i have ever used. very little sweat and it sits absloutely perfectly on your back - it has plenty of adjustment if needed. i always use a pack liner (or two sometimes) but the rain cover fits very well if you need to use it. i would be happy to reccommend this bag to anyone who wants a really good and comfortable bag.

I have had this bag for about 5 yrs-cant fault it,tough, sturdy, does what it says on the tin. i had a smaller version with the freeflow back system also,so im use to it,although you do loose a small amount of space inside the sack due to the shape of the carbon fibre whatsitt thingy, but its worth it for a sweat- free back.the only way to improve the bag would be to include a wand pocket,to stow walking sticks as opposed to the ice axe carriers, but thats nitpicking

Had to increase pack size as Sumer came - all 4 sets of waterproofs plus a picnic take up some room! This is a comfortable, roomy pack with good quality - it's been chucked about a lot and stands up well to rough treatment. Only improvement would be to add another pole loop on the back.

I use this as my summer mountain rescue pack and it does most of what I want it to do. It's a good value pack and stands up to lots of abuse - it tends to get thrown about regularly and so far the only issue is a broken zip on a side pocket. The side pockets are good sizes, those in the lid hold plenty and the whole thing fits together nicely. The in built raincover keeps it very dry.

managed to get hold of one of these a few weeks ago ready for my 3 day trip to the lakes . after a lot of work slipping my kit down the contoured main comp, managed to finally get it all in. 1, yes you do get a good airflow . so no bad sweaty back 4/5 2, very adjustable, good pockets 3.5/5 3,the back support system where it keeps the sack from your back ( like a fibreglass pole set) really managed to dig into my hips where the hip support is 1/5 4,does have a great lid with plenty of room 4/5 5, man no matter how i packed it ... it still managed to hang of my back... load stable .. load unstable more like lol 2/5 for the money ... a lot to put out for in my case a painfull back by the hips man it sure does dig in verdict for my money would go for lowe alpine crag attack 40 and save a bit of weight along with a berrer carry.... oh and the last crag i attacked it won LOL

Great bag !!!!, But it seem like you can never fit that much in it due to the freeflow system. It is very well built and reliable.

It certainly was comfortable on the back and the mesh kept my back dry. The pack didn't seem that unstable when scrambling on Tryfan, despite the pack being further away from my back. The internal pocket on the lid was a nice touch for small items readliy at hand. The hip belt was comfortable although wand pockets would have been a nice addition. The quoted 35+8 sounded an excellent size pack. However once the filled 2L hydration bladder was in place, and items in the side pouches, the main pack seemed to reduce significantly in size. Once packed it was difficult to replace the bladder after refilling. I have moved to using an Berghaus Arete 35 instead.

Once I had but the external frame together properly the bag was superbly comfortable to wear. The stitching on the side mesh pockets came apart on the first day of use. Generally a good bag, good design, good price. Let down by poor attention to detail of manufacture. As they say, 'trust is earned'. You have to get things right though!

RE: Berghaus Freeflow III 35 + 8

Hi there, bought this pack about 6 months ago, got a great deal from a Leading Highstreet Outdoor, camping and hiking store beginning with M. RRP £64.99, I told the manager I could get it cheaper online and asked him what his best price was, brought price down the £45 including a Platty 2L bladder!! Make sure you ask for a good deal as all shops are currently negotiable. I'v done some long hikes with this pack, and every time it performs superbly. The freeflow system keeps my back cool and the space inside is surprisingly large. Pack is perfect as a daysac with the bladder in place but I'd recommend losing the bladder if you are going for an overnighter as it takes up a lot of room. I tend to slip 500ml bottles of water in all the little gaps if I'm going for a couple of nights or so. Loads of pockets, raincover seems to work ok (but i use EXPED Dry BAGS to keep things dry as they are colour coded and really compresseed. Then new packs (version IV) don't have a shock cord on the front, Berghaus have replaced it with a pocket. Personally i think this pocket is useless so I'v bought some bungee cords and strapped them round the pack to secure my roll mat and sleeping bag. Verdict - in my oppinion, no better pack for the money and size, 43L of usable space + dry back + great build quality = one happy hiker.
